INT. COLLEGE PARTY

Screen Shot 2022-03-16 at 7.01.01 PM.png

This location was based in an apartment complex and the largest goal when production designing this space was to minimize the look of the white walls. To draw attention away from the walls, dark color tapestries were hung to create blocks of contrast. In addition, practical disco lights were used to color the remaining white walls and add a moving sort of texture which helped maximize the scale of the party and background extras. Lastly, gold string lights were used to cut through the flat walls and add lines to the composition of the frame. In regards to set dressing, used solo cups, junk food, and custom liquor bottles were also used to create a sense of inebriated college students wandering throughout the space.

INT. BRENDON'S MIND

Screen Shot 2022-03-16 at 8.41.16 PM.png

This location was shot on a USC sound stage in order to build and light a dark void around the scene to represent the inside of Brendon’s internal conscious. The main dressing for the scene included basic office supplies with a retro 90’s feeling. In addition to the office supply setting, the most critical part to execute was the machinery to operate Brendon’s mind which was created using computer monitors, spare lighting grids, hand brakes, and spare parts of video game consoles. All display footage was recorded previous to the shooting days and operated on standby.

ESSENTIAL PROPS

Two essential props in this film were the labelled beer bottles and the improv flyer used inside Brendon’s mind. The flyer and beer bottle labels were created and designed in Photoshop. To assemble the bottles, their original labels were carefully removed and replaced with the custom graphics which were then laminated onto the surface.
